TINNED GOODS -

SJ BLAKE

The humble biscuit tin transforms into a portal, offering an escape to other worlds. Drawing inspiration from peephole dioramas and toy theatres, painted paper cutouts fill many tins, creating hidden landscapes and interior spaces. Collected from dumps, charity shops, and gifted, these tins are reminiscent of a bygone era when we shared, preserved, and delighted in occasional rare treats, now seem outdated in our era of abundance. With a naive style and dark humour, this installation speaks to a yearning for a nostalgic past, juxtaposed with a contemplation of our environmental future.
